Policies for handling student
concerns
1. Issues related to
concerns about grades:
Step 1 Contact the instructor
during his/her office hours. If there is no resolution from this discussion
then:
Step 2 Make an appointment with
the appropriate department chair. Please give the chair an opportunity to
discuss the issue with the faculty person. If you are not satisfied with the
resolution then:
Step 3 You may contact the Dean’s
Office and make an appointment with the assistant dean. Please provide an
opportunity for the assistant dean to conduct an appropriate investigation. If
you are still not satisfied with the result, you may file a grade appeal as
outlined in the Catalog (page 65 in the 2006 Catalog).
2. Issues related to
faculty or fellow student behavior:
If the issue is related to gender or ethnic bias, please
contact the Director of Human Resources.
If the issue is related to the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA), please contact the Office of Student Affairs. Faculty
may not provide accommodation without verification by that office.
If the issue is related to a grade, homework assignment,
or course policies, refer to policy number 1. Contact the instructor first,
than the department chair, and finally the Dean’s Office.
3. Issues related to
advising, transfer of courses or credit, or other academic related issues:
First see your advisor. Until you complete your degree
plan, Ms. Ronnie Grayson is your advisor. After completion of your degree plan
the department will assign you an advisor. If you do not know who your advisor
is, please contact the appropriate department secretary. Each department office
and the Dean’s Office keep a record of faculty office hours so that you may
find a time to make an appointment with your advisor on a regular basis.
For transfer credits, NSU adheres to the Oklahoma State
Regents for Higher Education transfer guide which is on their web site. Below
is the web address:
http://www.okhighered.org/student-center/transfer-stdnts/course-transfer.shtml
For courses not contained on the guide, the department
chairperson, with the input of the faculty, determine the appropriate transfer
credits.
Remember, all students must complete a minimum of sixty
(60) credit hours from a four year institution therefore you may not be able to
use all of your transfer credits.
For other academic course related issues, please contact
your instructor for clarification.
4. Class Absence Policy
Each faculty person has a class absence policy, including
his/her policy on allowing you to
complete any missed assignments or examinations. Please check the course
syllabus for your instructor’s policy.
If the instructor is unable to attend class for any
unforeseen reason, the appropriate office will post a notice on the classroom
door. If a notice is not posted and the instructor is not there after fifteen
minutes, you may leave, but please have a class representative notify the
department or college office. In
