Northeastern State University
introduces two new options for those seeking careers in the
financial planning industry. The CFP® Certification Education
Program at Northeastern offers a bachelor degree option and
non-credit (certificate) option for qualified individuals.
Made possible through funding from the State Farm Foundation,
both programs are CFP Board-registered and fulfill the
education requirements set forth by CFP Board. Students in
each program will cover topics in insurance, income-tax
accounting, investments, estate planning, retirement and
employee benefit planning, and professional financial
planning.
“The CFP® Certification Education Program at Northeastern is
another great addition to this institution’s outstanding
academic offerings,” said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams.

educational programming, the education State Farm’s next work
force, and the betterment of Oklahoma’s work force.”
Bachelor Degree Program.
By pursuing the only undergraduate level CFP Board-Registered
Program in Oklahoma, students at NSU may receive a BBA in
Finance or Business Administration with a concentration in
Financial Planning. The four-year program gives students a
firm foundation in their respective major plus the benefit of
coursework that meets the educational requirements for future
CFP Board Certification. For more information on NSU’s college

Non-Credit (Certificate) Option.
A 14-month, 180-hour program offered through the Professional
and Continuing Education Department at NSUBA, the CFP®
Certification Education Program at Northeastern offers a
non-credit Certificate in Financial Planning. The
comprehensive program is CFP Board-registered and taught by
qualified university professors and practicing professionals
approved by the College of Business and Technology.
Program participants meet one night each week for three hours
with an occasional Saturday morning class. In addition to
being proficient with a financial calculator, students are
encouraged to have at least one year of financial planning
experience. Exceptions will be evaluated on a case-by-case
basis. Classes begin February 28.

An independent certifying organization, CFP Board owns the
certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM, and
federally registered CFP (with flame logo), which it awards to
individuals who meet its education, examination, experience
and ethics requirements. Students completing the financial
planning program at Northeastern will be eligible to sit for
the national CFP® Certification Examination administered by
CFP Board.
