Employers often hire accounting graduates because of their analytical background even though the positions do not encompass typical accounting responsibilities. An attractive feature of the curriculum is the option to work as an accounting intern while earning up to six hours credit. Finance Finance graduates are highly sought by firms such as securities dealers, stockbrokers, insurance companies, mortgage lenders, banks, and other financial institutions. Because of their analytical background, finance graduates are also being employed to work alongside accountants in analyzing financial statements and performing other types of financial analysis. Recent starting salaries for top students range from $35,000 to $45,000 with many of the graduates also compensated on a commission basis with such firms as ONEOK, American Express, Samson Resources, MCI Worldcom, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Edward D. Jones. Internships for finance graduates often lead to full time employment after graduation.
