Accounting |
| The demand for accounting graduates
remains strong. Starting salaries for top accounting graduates range from $35,000 to $45,000 with companies such as Williams Companies and Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Numerous NSU accounting graduates
own public accounting practices as CPAs . Employers often hire accounting graduates because of their analytical background even though the positions do not encompass typical accounting responsibilities. An attractive
feature of the curriculum is the option to work as an accounting intern while earning up to six hours credit. |
|
Financial Management |
| Finance graduates are highly sought by firms such as securities dealers, stockbrokers, insurance companies, mortgage lenders, banks, and other financial institutions.
Because of their analytical background, finance graduates are also being employed to work alongside accountants in analyzing financial statements and performing other types of financial analysis. Recent starting salaries for top
students range from $35,000 to $45,000 with many of the graduates also compensated on a commission basis with such firms as ONEOK, American Express, Samson Resources, MCI Worldcom, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley
and Edward D. Jones. Internships for finance graduates often lead to full time employment after graduation. |

Financial Planning |
|
Growth in the
U.S. economy coupled with a decline in the reliability of the
social security system has created an increased need for
qualified professional financial advisors in the financial
services industry. Financial planning is one of the fastest
growing segments of this industry. The premier measure of
financial advisor quality is the Certified Financial Planner
(TM) certification. In order to receive CFP(R) certification,
candidates must meet three requirements: (1) education, (2)
examination, and (3) experience. The NSU Financial Planning
major is designed to fulfill the education requirement. In May
of 2004, the CFP Board registered the course content for NSU's
major in financial planning. NSU's curriculum is consistent with
the CFP Board's model curriculum. |
